Elles obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, followed by a Pre-Master in Medicine at the University of Groningen. During her Master’s in Medicine, Elles participated in a research project focusing on the crosstalk between the diseased heart and peripheral organs. This project and her background in Biomedical Sciences triggered her to pursue in research and start a MD/PhD trajectory. During the first months of her MD/PhD, Elles was granted the opportunity to work abroad under the supervision of dr. Javid Moslehi at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, to focus on the emerging area of cardio-oncology. Currently, she finished her research abroad and will start at the University Medical Center Groningen.
Current activities
Her MD/PhD project focuses on co-morbidities and interaction between different diseases and therapies in elderly heart failure patients. This research will shed light on the challenges concerning heart failure in the elderly population, with a specific focus on the HFpEF phenotype in both clinical and pre-clinical research.
