Huitzilihuitl is a cardiologist, echocardiographer, and cardiopulmonary physiology specialist from the National Institute of Cardiology in Mexico City. In addition, he holds an MSc from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He is part of the KETONE-HF project and also conducts research on atrial natriuretic peptides and ketones in heart failure under the supervision of Daan Westenbrink.

He is an amateur golfer who enjoys classic literature.
