Joanna Wykrzykowska

Cardiologist

Joanna Wykrzykowska is an interventional cardiologist at the department of Cardiology in the University Medical Center Groningen. Her research focuses on treatment and improving outcomes of ischemic and valvular heartdisease.

‘My research mainly involves clinical trials with patients, with the aim of improving treatment and outcomes after percutaneous coronary interventions and transfemoral aortic valve replacement (TF-TAVI).  I conduct research with a team of investigators within our Department of Cardiology, but also work extensively with other major centers within Europe and worldwide. My passion for interventional cardiology developed early during my medical education. This discipline is based on hard data and logic but at the same time includes close contact with patients during interventions. It is very satisfying to see how new treatment technologies are applied so rapidly and improve patients’ health. Besides new stent and valve technologies, I am interested in optimal drug therapy in patients undergoing interventions.’
