Mariëlle Kloosterman

Mariëlle Kloosterman was born on March 18th 1993 in Zwolle, the Netherlands.  She started her Medicine study at the University of Groningen in 2011. In 2016 she received a personal MD-PhD grant. This allowed her to pursue a PhD degree, with two intermittent 1-year periods of full-time research, while simultaneously completing her master of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree in March 2019. On November 23rd 2020 she defended her thesis entitled “Characterization of Different Patient Populations with Atrial Fibrillation”.

Current activities

Her research so far involved small individual projects, as well as projects in the setting of large (inter)national groups, and took place in Groningen and abroad (Hamilton, Canada and Birmingham, United Kingdom).

She is currently doing her internal medicine rotations at the Martini Hospital in Groningen and hopes to apply for a personal research grant in the near future.
