To identify which patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 are at highest risk of developing heart failure, we developed a prediction model. We turned this model into an online risk engine to facilitate the use of the prediction model.
The optimal cut point for identifying those at highest risk of new onset heart failure is 9.29.
In the derivation cohort (patients from the ALTITUDE trial), patients with a score => 9.29 showed a significantly higher rate of incident heart failure over a period of 4 years than those with a score <9.29.
