Biomedical Sciences PhD student – NHI

Research line: Experimental Cardiology
Project: PLN cardiomyopathy
Apply until: 31 December 2024

We are looking for motivated PhD candidate in Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen to study the molecular mechanisms of inherited cardiomyopathies and explore new therapies, focusing on phospholamban PLN cardiomyopathy, specifically the pathogenic PLN-R14del variant which is very common in the Netherlands. This mutation often leads to severe heart failure, with heart transplantation as the only proven treatment.

Using a mouse model and patient-derived iPSCs, our research employs cutting-edge technologies, including gene silencing and AAV-based therapies, to uncover disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research with the potential to significantly advance therapeutic options for patients with inherited cardiomyopathies.
